Caught off-guard, the Southern Song frontier defenses collapsed. The Jin invaders rapidly advanced 200 miles deep into Southern Song territory before strengthening Song defenses and unfavorable southern China topography once again stymied the Jin invasion army. Another frustrating stalemate ensued and the Jin high prince was assassinated by his own disgruntled generals. This opened the way for peace negotiations between the Jin and the Song courts, ending in a peace armistice favorable to the Song."
